My Chemical Romance formed in 2001 after the September 11 attacks, Gerard Way wanted to “make a difference”. Gerard would be joined by his brother Mikey way, and their drummer Matt Pelissier. Together they would release their first album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love in July 2002. From there Ray Toro and Frank Iero would join, composing the My Chemical Romance we see today. They have won a series of platinum albums.
The album follows a man and a woman who are separated by death. The man goes to hell to find his love only to realize the woman wasn’t there. The Devil makes a deal, “If you can kill 1,000 tortured souls, you can see her again.” The man is handed a gun.
Three Cheers debuted in June 2004 after developments since October 2003. It is My Chemical Romance’s second album. The album would go on to sell over 1.36M copies by 2006 and stands at 3 million copies today! The Rolling Stone would declare it the 10th greatest emo album out of 40 and it would win a triple platinum in 2017. Three Cheers has also won platinum in the UK and Canada, as well as Gold in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Argentina, and Chile.
