The Daft Punk dynamic duo is made up of eccentric members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Forming in 1993, Daft Punk achieved popularity in the late 1990s as part of the French house movement, combining house music, funk, disco, techno, rock and synth-pop. They are regarded as one of the most influential acts in electronic dance music.
Daft Punk was formed by friends Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, who met in school in Paris in 1987. After playing in an indie rock band called Darlin' for a short time, they became interested in electronic music, and the band eventually broke up. They named their new project Daft Punk after a negative review of Darlin' that called their music "daft punky thrash," which they found amusing.
Daft Punk's Discovery involved extensive sampling, live instrumentation, and collaboration, all recorded between 1998 and 2000 at Thomas Bangalter's home in Paris.
Discovery saw the debut of Daft Punk's distinctive robot costumes. Discovery was an attempt to reconnect with the playful, open-minded attitude associated with the discovery phase of childhood.
